Changing Host Families

After many weeks of searching for a new host family in Santa Cruz that meets all the Peace Corps regulations, I finally found a new home! I decided to change host families to find a more secure house that was closer to town. Luckily, I found just that!

My new host family is an 81 year old woman who owns a fabric store in the front room of the house. She lives with her three daughters who are all in their 40’s and work as teachers in different schools in town. The house is a big old style sierra home and is only two blocks from the plaza! I have a big room and my own bathroom (with water 24 hrs!) on the first floor and the family lives on the second story.

On Thursday my boss came to approve my new house and we ended up just moving everything that day! My first night was so fun. The family invited me upstairs for coffee and then two hours of telenovelas while the mom crocheted. I have a feeling I am going to love it here and hopefully become a crochet expert!
