About Me!

Brooklynn Adelman Peace Corps Peru Travel BloggerHey ya’ll! My name is Brooklynn and I am a Peace Corps Community Economic Development Volunteer in Peru. I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a minor in Marketing. I’m a piano teaching, Pinterest junkie, photographer with a passion for volunteering.

I successfully finished 27 months of service in a small town in the Northern Andes of Peru and I could not find it in my heart to leave yet, so now I am moving to the big city of Lima to continue my service as a third year Peace Corps Volunteer Leader in the PC Peru office and as a Digital Marketing volunteer with Sinfonía por el Perú, a local NGO that gives instruments and music classes to almost 6,000 kids across the country!

Long term goal: Start a youth symphony in a developing country, and continue traveling and writing about my experiences abroad.

Short term goals: Eat all the yummy market food Lima has to offer, figure out how to navigate the combi situation, and continue my goal to become mas peruana que la papa, “more Peruvian than the potato”.

Good luck! Buena suerte! You{ve made a good decision…I waited 50 years, partly because my mother talked me out of it after college. Listen to your heart, not others ….a PC voluntaria mexicana

Gracias! Good luck in Mexico, I have a special place in my heart for that country because my sister is there for 1.5 years on a mission. It looks like a beautiful place!

Hi! I am a future PCV (hopefully)! Looks like you’re having a great time in Peru so far (the recruiter I interviewed with wanted to nominate me for Peru, but I ended up being nominated to a country in Africa. Peru would be awesome…went there a year ago on a mission trip in Huancayo)! Anyway…I have a friend that started a non-profit symphony in North Carolina to help at risk youth (http://www.kidznotes.org). She’s also worked with El Sistema in Venezuela (http://www.elsistemausa.org/el-sistema-in-venezuela.htm). You should look into these for your future goals! Good luck with everything…

Congrats on your nomination! I’m sure wherever you go will be a great experience. If you start a blog for your service let me know. 🙂 Also, thanks for the advice! I am a fan of El Sistema but I have never looked into working for them. Kidznotes looks like such a great program… I might have to get in touch with your friend for advice when I’m done!

Hey Brooklynn – thanks again for the comment on our blog: Partners for Peace. I’ve finally gotten a chance to catch up reading your blog and it’s great! I don’t know why it didn’t register earlier – maybe because I have a newborn – but our baby is also named Brooklyn (sans the second “n”) – since that’s where we met and fell in love. Anyway, thought I would stop by and share that coincidence. Hope you are enjoying your time in Peace Corps – we had the best time ever and with your attitude I imagine you will, too. Disfruta!

Also forgot to mention that the CD of Ecuador while I was there is now your CD – Parmer Heacox – hope you like having him at the helm. He was really supportive of us – if you see him you can tell him Paul and Mari and baby Brooklyn say hi!

Wow small world, I hope baby Brooklyn is doing well! Everyone always writes my name with one “n” anyways, so it’s probably better that way. Haha. We have our chats with Parmer this week and I will definitely tell him ya’ll said hi!

    Hi Brooklyn,
I came across your site and absolutely love it. I must say it’s a small world I am also from Texas and actually just finished applying for your position in Peru for 2016. I have my interview in August and I’m excited I ran across your prep questions. I hope we can keep in touch if I become nominated. I can imagine I’ll have many questions!
I look forward to talking to you
